Volunteering
VOLUNTEERS FOR PEACE:
Volunteers who join Volunteers for Peace are men and women who share the vision of this initiative and are willing to help and assist people and communities to meet their needs of education, health and development. After a period of initiation and training, Volunteers for Peace are elligible to join also our Travelers for Peace division.
TRAVELERS FOR PEACE:
Volunteers at Travelers for Peace are committed to serve overseas, under conditions of difficulty and hardship if necessary, in relief and community-based projects. Among others they might be called to teach special skills, build schools, dig wells, sponsor peace or initiate dialogue in conflict areas.
OTHER POSITIONS AT CRSMM:
There are numerous internship and non-paid volunteer positions available within CRSMM. Responsibilities include: Event Planning, newsletters creation, fundraising, database management, donor and organizational research, help in preparation of marketing materials, processing of donor acknowledgment letters, general coordination with the Executive Director and Program Director and else.
PROFILE OF POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS:
People who volunteer come from different social backgrounds. Some work while others are retired or help in housework. Some are experienced and have lots of skills that they want to use in meaninful ways while others are looking forward to learning more and using their energy at the service of their fellow human beings. Some can commit few hours and days for volunteering during a specific period of time while others can commit extensive periods of time.
In general, these are some of the profiles of people we are looking for:
- Students who want to do some community service, are working on specific projects or are looking for some work experience before walking on a career path.
- People who are looking for a career change or want to prepare for it.
- Concerned citizens, housewives, and newly retired citizens who want to contribute their time to helping and assisting people.
- Professionals (including those on sabatical Leave) who are looking to enrich their life by serving and helping others.
WHY JOINING US:
Many students, newly graduates, and people who want to change their career paths will find that working at a non-profit organization is an ideal way to experience a variety of tasks, roles, and responsibilities.
Senior Citizens, who have retired and still want to lead an active life will find that working (at their own pace) for a non-profit can be a rich and rewarding experience, whether mentoring youth or facing the challenges of new routines and cultures.
For housewives, volunteering at CRSMM will be a stress-free opportunity to have an active life or return slowly and incrementally to active life or the job market without prejudices to their basic duties.
With the help of a mentor, each volunteer will decide monthly about the tasks and the time needed for his volunteering and together they will work closely to determine the targets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- For startup and some junior positions, no special knowledge or expertise is required.
- For senior positions, however, a fair command of Japanese in combination with English/French/or Arabic is required.
- We particularly welcome bilingual people (Japanese included) and people with experiences within media, marketing, program and events coordination, teaching and training, volunteer recruitment and outreach, program development as well social media (e.g. facebook, twitter, forums, etc.), website/blog design, ICT and communications, enrollment, customer relations, and accounting.
ORIENTATION:
New volunteers will go through one or more orientation sessions to prepare them to handle future duties and tasks.
